Isaiah Simmons underwent a notable position change that proved temporary in Arizona before the preseason concluded.
The Cardinals have traded the former first-round pick to the New York Giants, receiving a 2024 seventh-round draft pick in return. This transaction was officially announced by the team on Thursday.
On this matter, Cardinals’ Head Coach Jonathan Gannon stated, ‘Isaiah executed all our requests effectively. Looking ahead, we believe this approach aligns best with our football strategy against opponents.’
Simmons’ narrative in Arizona was intertwined with a challenge of fitting in. Having been the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, he entered the NFL with a clear versatility, though his unique mix of size, speed, and athleticism enticed numerous talent evaluators with the potential he carried.
The former Cardinals General Manager, Steve Keim, took the plunge on Simmons’ unexplored capabilities when he drafted him at the eighth overall spot in 2020. Although Keim’s tenure didn’t continue long enough to admit defeat, his successor, GM Monti Ossenfort, candidly recognized the franchise’s previous misstep without uttering a word.”
